PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Qualifying learners are capable of boarding, jointing and skimming of ceilings, while applying prescribed best practice housekeeping policies.

These skills will ensure that breakages and stoppages are kept to a minimum and equipment is used in accordance with best practice and safety procedures.

This competence also advances a learner's personal expertise and employability in the construction sector and other related fields, for example, interior design and refurbishment.

    Ceiling boards are installed onto framework according to prescribed procedures.

    The plaster is finished with sandpaper neatly.

    Perform skimming of ceiling boards.

    Materials and tools are laid out in a logical fashion. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The range includes preparation for wall paper, laminating and tiles, painting and bonding liquids.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Skimming plaster is mixed thoroughly in acceptable ratios. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Skimming plaster is applied following prescribed safety procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The required finish is interpreted and applied correctly. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Perform housekeeping on installation site.

    Rubbish is removed from installation site.

    The installation site is cleaned to re-establish its original condition.

    Tool inventory is completed in accordance with company procedures.

  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.

  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the Qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual Unit Standards as well as the integrated competence described in the Qualification.
