PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The persons credited with this Unit Standard will be able to approach the whole process of transporting horses in the correct manner. They will also be able to ensure that the horse is kept safe, secure and without undue stress at all times before, during and after transportation.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing horses to be moved and transported.
  • Loading horses.
  • Unloading horses.

    Safety aspects required for travelling with a horse are explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The tack in common use when transporting a horse is identified and an explanation given of its purpose. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Holding and handling facilities are prepared according to worksite procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The equipment required for both the groom and the horse is identified and an explanation given of its purpose.

    Behaviour of horses is controlled in order to minimise stress and injury to both horses and people. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Horses are held in order to avoid stress and injury to both horses and people.

    Horse handling is governed by legislative requirements.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
