    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
The law of conservation of linear momentum is defined and explained in scientific terms using examples from industry.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Velocities of two bodies are calculated after an impact for bodies remaining together and for elastic bodies.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
Impulse and force is calculated from a change of momentum information.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2
Demonstrate an understanding of work, energy and power.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
The concepts, interrelationships and measurement units of work, energy and power are defined and explained in scientific terms.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Various force, work, power and efficiency calculations relevant to linear movement are performed in accordance with specific requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
The law of conservation of energy is defined and explained in scientific terms.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Kinetic and potential energy calculations are performed as applicable to the processing industry.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
The importance of using renewable vs. non-renewable energy sources are discussed using relevant examples from industry.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
Demonstrate an understanding of levers, moments and beams.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
The concepts of levers, moments and beams are defined and explained in scientific terms.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
The law of moments is defined and explained in scientific terms.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Representations of shearing force and bending moment diagrams are made using freehand sketches and calculations.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Reactions at the supports of beams are calculated for vertical point loads and evenly distributed loads.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
Shear force and bending moment diagrams are drawn for simply supported beams.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6
The positions and magnitude of maximum bending moments are determined through calculations and sketches.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4
Demonstrate an understanding of centre of gravity and centroids.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
The concepts of centroids and centre of gravity are defined and explained in scientific terms.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
Positions of centroids for irregular forms are determined by breaking down irregular forms into usable forms.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Positions of centroids for regular forms are calculated using freehand sketches and area formulas.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Positions of centre of gravity for regular forms are determined using calculations and sketches.
