The person credited with this unit standard will be able to perform basic stable yard operations such as feeding, watering and cleaning horses, conducting routine checks for pest control and others, clean a stable while adhering to the necessary safety requirements.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Applying safety aspects when working with and around horses.
  • Cleaning a horses stable.
  • Feeding and watering a horse.
  • Conducting routine checks in the stable yard environment.
  • Explaining the importance of Pest Control in the stable yard.

    Preventative methods may include but is not limited to; spraying, baiting, fly and rodent traps, dipping, fumigation, hygiene and professional exterminators.

    Consequences of not controlling pests in a stable yard are explained with examples.

    Pests may include but is not limited to insects, parasites, rodents and reptiles.

    Pest control measures and pesticides/poisons are kept in a safe place according to safety requirements.
