PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners who demonstrate competence as described in the outcomes of this unit standard will be able to repair basic gas equipment and appliances under supervision.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Plan fault finding and maintenance functions.
  • Conduct fault finding and testing of gas equipment and appliances.
  • Repair gas equipment or appliances.
  • Conclude gas equipment or gas appliance repair.

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the gas installations environment, by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The knowledge, skills and understanding demonstrated in this unit standard are essential for upliftment, social and economic transformation in the gas installation environment. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence against mathematical literacy and literacy at ABET Level 4, NQF Level 1 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    This Unit Standard is intended for the repair of both general gas equipment as well as small gas appliances such as stoves, cookers, heaters and geysers.

    The typical context of this unit standard assumes an existing or new domestic or commercial gas installation site.

    The typical scope of this unit standard includes one of the following but is not limited to:
  • LPG installations.
  • Natural gas installations.
  • Compressed gas installations.
  • Medical installations.

    Equipment or appliance is cleaned before approving it for service.

  • Direct observation in simulated or actual work conditions is required.
