PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners who demonstrate competence as described in the outcomes of this unit standard will be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of quality principles used in the manufacturing of pulp and paper hygiene products.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Define the terms Quality, Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Quality Management.
  • Explain the requirements and processes used to ensure effective Quality Control.
  • Describe the factors that affect product quality.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the consequences of poor quality control.

    This will ensure that the understanding and knowledge of quality principles used in pulp and paper hygiene products is performed in accordance with procedures and accepted work practices.     Description of required skills:
  • This unit standard has been designed as an introduction to the understanding of quality principles used in the manufacturing of pulp and paper hygiene products.

    Literacy and mathematical literacy:
  • Persons attempting this unit standard are required to read, understand and interpret textbooks of a technical nature. It is therefore recommended that they have achieved NQF Level 1 or equivalent accreditation.
