PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner achieving this unit standard will be able to conduct a scheduled service on agricultural equipment.

This competence will enable the learner to:
  • Prepare to conduct a maintenance service.
  • Perform the scheduled service.
  • Conduct standard operational inspections and tests.
  • Keep the workplace safe and productive.

    This will ensure that the scheduled service is done in accordance with safe and accepted work practices. This competence will enhance the learner's employability and career options in all occupations where a scheduled service is conducted on equipment and implements.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    This unit standard has been designed as an introduction to scheduled services and does not assume prior learning or experience. The unit standard outcomes and credits are based on the assumption that learners attempting this Unit Standard will have demonstrated competence against numeracy and literacy at NQF Level 1. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    Scheduled service includes:
  • Lubrication service.
  • Maintenance service.
  • Pre-delivery service.

    Schedules services must be conducted on a range of agricultural equipment representing at least one example from each of the following types of equipment:
  • Tractors.
  • Harvesters.
  • Implements.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Prepare to conduct a scheduled service. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The execution of the task is planned in accordance with job instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The tools and equipment are selected and the work area is prepared in accordance with job instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The availability of required lubricants and coolants are confirmed and ordered as specified by manufacture specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The availability of standard parts and components is confirmed and ordered as specified by manufacture specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    A pre-service visual inspection is performed and obvious faults are record in terms of workplace procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Perform the scheduled service. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The agricultural equipment to be serviced is cleaned and prepared in accordance with job instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The required parts, lubricants and coolants are collected according to workplace procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The service is conducted in a logical and organised manner according to manufacturer specifications. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The range includes, but is not limited to:
  • Following the correct methodology.
  • Following the correct sequence of activities.
  • Using the correct tools and equipment.

    Conduct standard operational inspections and tests. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Standard tests on the mechanical and operational soundness of the equipment are conducted according to manufacturer specifications. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The range includes, but is not limited to, output tests, idle speed tests and mechanical operation of operator controls.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The test results are recorded and evaluated against manufacture specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Any corrective action required is determined and recorded in terms of workplace procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Keep the workplace safe and productive. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Occupational safety, health and environmental protection measures are adhered to in accordance with workplace instructions. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The range includes, but is not limited to:
  • Measures to protect the person and other employees from personal injury and health risks (eyes, ears, lungs, feet, body, head).
  • Prevention of contamination of the environment.
  • Use of, and compliance to, warning signs and symbols.
  • Compliance with demarcated areas.

    Workshop administration and documentation are completed in accordance with workplace instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Housekeeping duties are performed in accordance with standard workplace procedures and safety instructions.

    The range of housekeeping procedures includes, but is not limited to:
  • Keeping the work area neat and organised.
  • Disposing of and/or recycling worn spares.
  • Discarding waste and empty containers.
  • Cleaning spillages.

    End of task duties are performed in accordance with standard workplace instructions. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The end of task duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Cleaning of tools and equipment.
  • Reporting unsafe or dysfunctional tools and workshop equipment.
  • Storage of tools and workshop equipment.
  • Storage of unused spares and consumables.

    Reporting and decision making is performed in accordance with workplace instructions.

    Reporting and decision making includes, but is not limited to:
  • Following the correct channels.
  • Acting within levels of authority.
  • Adhering to delegated decision making powers.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Assessors assessing learners against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • An institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA.procedures.

    The assessment of qualifying learners against this standard should meet the requirements of established principles. Practical assessment activities will be used, which are appropriate to the contents/industry/environment in which qualifying learners are working. These activities will include an appropriate combination of self and peer assessment, practical and oral assessments, observations etc.

    The assessment should ensure that all the specific outcomes, critical cross-field outcomes and essential embedded knowledge are assessed. The specific outcomes must be assessed in their own right, through oral and practical evidence. Assessment by observation only cannot be done.

    The specific outcomes and essential knowledge must be assessed in relation to each other. If a qualifying learner is able to explain the essential embedded knowledge, but is unable to provide evidence of competence in the specific outcomes, then they should be judged as not yet competent. Similarly, if a learner is able to perform specific outcomes, but is unable to explain or justify their performance in terms of the essential embedded knowledge, they should not be judged as competent.

    Evidence of the specified critical cross-field outcomes should be found, both in performance and in the essential embedded knowledge.

    Performance of specific outcomes must actively affirm target groups of qualifying learners, not unfairly discriminate against them. Qualifying learners should be able to justify their performance in terms of these values.
