PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for people who work in the buying/planning function of an organisation. Being responsible for the buying of merchandise for re-sale it is imperative they have a thorough knowledge of local and international trends in their area of the industry if they wish to provide up to date merchandise for their target market.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to research international consumer and product trends, research local consumer and product trends and identify how these trends impact on their organisation.
