PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner will be able to load bulk petroleum products into rail or road tankers in accordance with company procedures, policies, instructions and relevant legislation. The acquisition of these competencies will ensure the timeous and safe loading of bulk petroleum products for transportation, thus contributing positively to the Southern African economy.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Preparing for loading of bulk petroleum products into road or rail tankers.
  • Loading bulk petroleum products into rail or road tankers.
  • Applying post-loading procedures. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is desirable for learners wishing to achieve this unit standard to be competent at:
  • Communication at ABET Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Mathematical Literacy at ABET Level 3 or equivalent. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    Range of conditions in which the learner will demonstrate competence towards achieving this unit standard include, but is not limited to:
  • In a controlled and supervised environment.
  • Under routine operating conditions.
  • During day and night time.
  • In all weather conditions.
  • During emergency situations.

    Range of sub standard conditions include, but is not limited to: Spillages, leakages and defective equipment.

    Sub-standard conditions during pre-loading operations are identified and reported in accordance with organisational requirements.

    All safety requirements are adhered to during pre-loading operations in terms of organisational procedures and related legislation.

    All safety requirements are adhered to during loading operations in terms of organisational policies, procedures, instructions and related legislation.

    Loading equipment is uncoupled according to organisational policies, procedures and instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Loading instructions are adhered to in relation to the relevant documentation as per organisational policies, procedures and instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Rail or road tanker is prepared for transportation of bulk petroleum product in accordance with organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The loading bay is vacated according to organisational policies, procedures and instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    All safety requirements are adhered to during post-loading operations in terms of organisational procedures and related legislation.

  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard and the related Exit Level Outcomes of the Qualification must be accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) body.
