PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
The learner achieving this unit standard will be able to:
  • Evaluate theories, principles, techniques and tools of group dynamics.
  • Form appropriate collective group structures and facilitate their functioning in a complex setting.
  • Facilitate the adoption and implementation of collective plan for group cooperation in a complex setting.
  • Select and apply appropriate group techniques and tools for varied situations in a complex group setting.
  • Facilitate the practical use of leadership principles and skills by a collective group structure in a complex group setting.
  • Facilitate group discussions and decision-making.

This unit standard will contribute to the qualitative development of learners by providing progression to this NQF level within the Extension environment. Recognition, further mobility and transportability within this field are accommodated. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and development within the agricultural sector.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE
The following statement provides a general guide to the scope and complexity of the competence expected of a practitioner:
  • Complex group setting refers to but is not limited to one or more groups which do interact with one another; one or more groups where dysfunction is a result of multiple, interrelated causes.
  • Complex work area/settings refers to but is not limited to multiple geographic areas, number of disciplines, duration of strategy, multiplicity of strategies, whole and interlinking systems.
  • Groups refers to but is not limited to any formal or informal grouping of two or more people with which an extension practitioner will interact in the normal course of work.
  • Appropriate groups refers to but is not limited to study groups, discussion groups, cooperatives, interest groups, production groups, etc.
  • Group functioning refers to but is not limited to decision-making, "forming, storming, norming and performing", dissolution, setting, implementing, monitoring and evaluation goals/objectives/decisions.
  • Critical: refers to the ability to intelligently engage with comment.
