PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is aimed at individuals involved in Protected Area Management operational activities driven by Management by Objectives and adaptive management principles. It enables the application of management planning and participation in the development and implementation of a protected area management plan. Learners will understand the significance and use of Protected area Management Planning in Conservation especially with regard to Management by Objectives and Adaptive Management practices. This will contribute towards the professional development and maintenance of good planning practices and implementation of the qualifying learner.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Plan the prioritised annual operational work activities as determined by the learner's operational protected area management plan.
  • Monitor planned operational activities.
  • Draft an annual report on the implementation outcomes of the annual operations plan.

    It is assumed that the learner is competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4.

    An annual operational (work-activities) plan based on the prioritised objectives of the operational area is drafted for the protected area.

    Supportive documentation is used, when necessary, to support the report's conclusions and recommendations.

    The operational activities planned for will be determined by the constraints of the protected area management plan and its objectives.

    The learner should review the annual operational plan in accordance with the protected area objectives and the priorties as set out the annual operations plan.
