A person credited with this unit standard is able to perform duties which will assist in the prevention of safety and emergency incidents, and also be able to deal with such incidents should they arise. Achieving learners will also be able to give educated advice on preventing and managing safety and emergency incidents.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Implement policy to promote the prevention of safety and emergency incidents.
  • Manage incidents which affect the safety of an Individual, group or crowd.
  • Manage emergency incidents which affect an individual, group or crowd.
  • Manage the reaction of an individual, group or crowd to a safety or emergency incident.

    Issues relating to incidents, which may arise, from faulty or misused property or equipment are identified and the solutions and remedies are explained.

    Human error and medical emergencies unrelated to the facility and event are identified.

    The relevant legislation for dealing with safety and emergency incidents is explained.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing an individual against this unit standard must meet the assessor requirements of the relevant ETQA. In particular, such assessors must demonstrate that they assess in terms of the scope and context defined in all the range statements.
  • Any institution offering learning towards this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA. External moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
