PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners who take part in hostage and suicide negotiations. This unit standard will enable learners to demonstrate an understanding of the legal framework pertaining to and the fundamentals and principles of hostage and suicide negotiations. The learners will also be able to prepare officials and individuals to survive a hostage incident. This unit standard will also contribute to the safe releasing of hostages during a hostage situation.
