PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners who demonstrate competence as described in the outcomes of this unit standard will be able to explain the basic principles of paper, board or tissue testing, perform the necessary tests using appropriate test equipment, and document test results whilst adhering to safety, health, environment and quality requirements.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Explain the fundamental principles of tests carried out on paper, board or tissue.
  • Explain the basic types of tests, tools, equipment and procedures applicable to tests carried out on paper, board and tissue.
  • Perform routine checks on test equipment.
  • Select and carry out physical tests on paper, board or tissue. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence against communication and mathematical literacy at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.

    The importance of maintaining accuracy, cleanliness, timing and sequence of test procedures are described with regards to the different selected tests.

    Explain the basic procedures applicable to the selected paper, board or tissue tests.
