PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The extent of traffic contraventions is very extensive. Many road users do not obey speed restrictions, road signs and drive recklessly. The result apart from injury and loss of life is a huge backlog of contraventions that have to be dealt with. The National Department of Transport promulgated the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act in a bid to, inter alia, provide for a scheme to discourage road traffic contraventions, to facilitate the adjudication of road traffic infringements, to support the prosecution of offences in terms of the national and provincial laws relating to road traffic and to implement a points demerit system. This Unit Standard with give the learner an in-depth knowledge of the Act and enable them to apply the Act in the workplace.
