PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners within the Safety in Society and Sovereignty of the State sub-field who work in the bomb disposal environment and who need to be empowered to dispose of explosives and munitions. The learners will also be able to demonstrate an understanding of relevant legislation regarding the disposal of explosives and munitions, disposal methods and techniques and be able to dispose of explosives and munitions. This standard will enable learners to dispose off, destroy, demilitarise, incinerate and demolish commercial, homemade and military explosives, arms and ammunition. The competencies achieved by the learner in this Unit Standard will lead to a safer society for South African citizens.

A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of relevant legislation regarding the disposal of explosives and munitions.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of disposal methods.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of disposal techniques.
  • Dispose of explosives and munitions.

    At lease five disposals must be conducted and must include disposal, destruction, demilitarisation, incineration and demolition.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
