PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for individuals dealing with the selling and promotion of products through customer interaction in a wholesale and retail environment.

Individuals credited with this unit standard will be able to demonstrate product knowledge in their specific area of operation and add value to customer service through the correct communication of product features and benefits, and where applicable, the assembly and utilisation of accessories associated with the specific product range.

The specific details applicable to the department and product range will determine the actual content of the training program developed against the requirements of this unit standard as products and product ranges have their own unique specifications, descriptions, features and, benefits and operational and service specific requirements.

Individuals credited with this unit standard will be able to use, describe and discuss products in their area of operation to ensure effective communication of product related information to customers. Product knowledge gained will enable effective problem solving and the addressing of customer needs in accordance with the standard operational procedures and specifications of the product manufacturer and the organisation in a correct and safe manner.

The standard applies to technical, semi-technical and non-technical products but excludes perishable and non-perishable food products.

Qualifying learners will be capable of:

  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard and the related Exit Level Outcomes of the Qualification must be accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) body.
  • External Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
  • The accredited Training Provider will oversee internal moderation of assessment.
