PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to schedule preventative maintenance for railway signalling equipment and how to gather, record and evaluate recurring faults information in order to recommend the actions required to remedy these recurring faults. Learners will also be able to investigate the equipment in order to establish their quality and then to compile a technical report in order to make equipment change proposals and also to explain the purpose of performing asset condition monitoring.

The qualifying learner is capable of:

  • Analysing recurring faults to monitor trends.
  • Preparing and submitting equipment/installation change proposals.

    Maintenance scheduling is explained for Preventative Maintenance. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Preventative Maintenance may include but is not limited to Routine Preventative Maintenance (RPM) and Corrective Preventative Maintenance (CPM).
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The integrity of systems in relation to functional testing is explained in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The consequences of not applying the preventative maintenance system according to policies and procedures are explained with examples in terms of the impact on operations and safety. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Analyse recurring faults to monitor trends.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Data are gathered according to equipment codes in order to be able to analyse recurring faults. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Data are evaluated in order to find the root causes of faults in order to effect their repair.

    Fault trends are identified by evaluating the data in order to prevent reoccurrence.

    Actions to be taken are explained in order to recommend changes and/or remedy recurring faults.
