PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard is intended for learners who wish to work in the maritime environment. The learner successfully completing this Unit Standard will gain essential knowledge of alarm systems, their response to specific conditions and the application of appropriate measures of a ship, which is needed to operate with confidence onboard a ship.

Alarm activation for each alarm type is demonstrated according to standard operating procedures. |

An explanation is given of the fire detection system with reference to links between the fire detection system and the general alarm system. |

A description is given of the lengths of delays till activation of audio alarms with reference to the implications of equipment, ship and personnel safety and the required response time. |
