This unit standard will enable qualifying learners to create and manipulate music for use in various professional contexts.

Learner accredited with this Unit Standard will be capable of:
  • Composing songs, melodies and/or compositions to the clients specification.
  • Arranging a melody of a short song for the brass section.
  • Programming compositions using music software and keyboard skills.
  • Recording arrangements of compositions.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Compose songs, melodies and/or compositions to client specifications for the advertising industry. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A melodic piece/composition suitable in style is composed according to client specifications. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Range includes but is not limited to 24-32 bars.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A melodic jingle theme for the advertising industry is composed considering target market and client specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A professional movie soundtrack melodic theme of 24 bars or more is composed according to stylistic requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    An instrumental melodic theme of 12-24 bars is composed according to client specifications. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Arrange a melody of a short song for the brass section.

  • Any individual wishing to be assessed (including RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a memorandum of understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a memorandum of understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must hold a minimum of Level 6 competency in the sub-field.
