    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Analyse and demonstrate knowledge of four different genres on chosen instrument. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Origin and development of genres is explained according to genre. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Sounds of the various genres on the chosen instrument are identified according to the genre. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Rhythmic characteristics are explained and demonstrated for each genre. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Melodic characteristics are explained and demonstrated for each genre. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Demonstrate advanced technical skills on the chosen instrument. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Warm up exercises are conducted. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Position of notes/tones on chosen instrument is expanded upon from the previous level. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Scales for melodic instruments/voice or rudiments for un-tuned percussion instruments are demonstrated and played/sung. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Technical exercises are played/sung. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Chords/broken chords are demonstrated for melodic instruments and grooves are demonstrated for un-tuned percussion. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Technical skills includes, but not limited to:
  • Quaver and quaver triplet rhythms, all modes of the major scale, all diatonic chords of the major scale.

    Perform on chosen instrument. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Music pieces are performed un/accompanied for a minimum of twenty minutes in duration according to performance indicators. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Four suitable music pieces differing in genre are performed with accompaniment according to performance indicators. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Rhythm and phrasing are applied to the specific pieces according to the genre. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Tempo is applied to the specific pieces according to the genre. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Sight read and play on chosen instrument. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    An excerpt of no less than sixteen bars is played/sung from sight. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Time signature is observed according to music piece. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Time signatures includes, but not limited to:
  • 2/4, ¾, 4/4, 6/8, 9/8, 12/8.

    Key signature is observed according to music piece.

    Key signatures includes, but not limited to:

    Notated note values and rests are adhered to according to music piece.

    Including, but not limited to:
  • Semibreve, minim, crochet, quaver notes, quaver, triplets and rests. Dots and ties for all the above note values included.

    Pitch is recognised and demonstrated according to music pitch.

  • Any individual wishing to be assessed, (including RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a memorandum of understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a memorandum of understanding with the relevant ETQA.
