PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Animal inspectors in this field are very specialised and need a wide range of disciplines. All of the animals are in captivity, many of them in small cages in a laboratory environment. There is a need to be persuasive in the company of highly qualified people, very often in a meeting environment. There is a need to see through invalid motivations and to search for ways to reduce, refine and replace experiments on animals.

People credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Promote ways of reducing, refining and replacing animals in experiments.
  • Develop strategies and systems for the reduction of animal experimentation.
  • Design, develop and distribute supporting documentation.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and media on animal research matters.
