PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard are required by people in the field of building and civil construction. Learners should be able to build masonry superstructures using concrete hollow units.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Prepare the work area and select, use and maintain tools, equipment and materials.
  • Set up vertical profiles and set out walls.
  • Install damp proof course, set up doorframes and mark position of window frames.
  • Build walls, build in doorframes, install and build in window frames.
  • Apply wall surface finishes.
  • Mark off, position and build in roof anchors (tie downs).
  • Build ancillary walls to complete structure.
  • Clean brickwork and clear building site.
