PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard will be able to prepare, style long hair and complete follow up actions.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing to style long hair.
  • Styling long hair into an elementary style.
  • Completing long hair style procedure.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Hair analysis: Porosity, elasticity, texture, density, length, scalp conditions, growth patterns.
  • Hair preparation: Shampooing, blow drying, pre setting, straightening, tonging.
  • Styling Tools: Combs, brushes, clips, products.
  • Home care advice: Product types, hair maintenance.
  • Cleaning and tidying: Work areas, shampoo area, styling station.

    Prepare to style long hair. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The hair and scalp is analysed in accordance with organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The required hair style is selected in accordance with the client's requirements and confirmed to be compatible with hair and scalp analysis. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The client is protected against water and/or product spillage in accordance with workplace procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Hair is prepared for styling in accordance with client requirements and salon procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Style long hair into an elementary style. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Styling aids are selected that suit the hair and style required and are applied to the hair according to organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The selected hair style is produced without damaging hair. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Hair is dressed and finished using appropriate techniques to achieve the given requirements.

    Satisfaction with hairstyle is confirmed with clients in accordance with organisational procedures.

    Homecare advice is provided that is consistent with hair types and the completed service.

    Sanitation of tools and equipment is carried out according to workplace and legislative requirements.

    Work area is cleaned and tidied according to workplace and legislative requirements. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
