PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner will be able to utilise Pilot Working when normal train control systems are suspended due to degraded mode and will be able to conform to related train working rules in a specific railway environment and contribute to safe movement on rail. They will be able to apply the pilot working method to control the safe movement on single and double rail lines.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Introducing pilot working.
  • Implementing pilot working.
  • Terminating pilot working.

    Pilotman's duties include but are not limited to pre-pilot working, during pilot working and post-pilot working.

    Pilot working form and ticket are completed according to train working rules.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed against the unit standard (including through RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA), or one with an appropriate memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the relevant ETQA.
