PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for learners who wish to become judges at NQF Level 1 in their specific discipline of Gymnastics.
This Unit Standard is designed to provide the learners with knowledge and understanding to be able to judge successfully at any competition in their specific discipline.

The qualifying learner will be capablein:
  • Impart knowledge on the Gymnastics Disciplines.
  • Apply the rules of judging in their specific discipline og Gymnastics.
  • Evaluate the judging experience to ensure quality and improve on their judging performance. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.
  • Communication at NQF Level 3. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    This Unit Standard will cover all (Including but not limited to) the rules and regulations of the Specific Disciplines Code of Points.

    Namely:
  • Gymnastic for all.
  • Men's Gymnastics.
  • Woman's Gymnastics.
  • Acrobatics.
  • Sports Aerobics.
  • Acrobatic Dance.
  • Rhythmic Gymnastics.
  • Trampoline.
  • Tumbling. 

  • Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Impart knowledge on the Gymnastics disciplines.

    Includes but not limited to:
  • Gymnastics for all, Men's Gymnastics, Woman's Gymnastics, Acrobatics, Sports Aerobics, Acrobatic dance, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline, Tumbling.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Explain the origin of gymnastics as a sport as pertaining to the history and current practices within the context of the specific disciplines. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Explain the judges framework as contextualized within the sport of gymnastics as per the specific discipline. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The principles of judging for a discipline of gymnastics are explained in terms of the sporting code. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Specific disciplines routines in age group sequences are named with examples. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Apply the rules of judging in the specific discipline of gymnastics.

    Rules and regulations relating to gymnastics are explained within a specific discipline. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The points system and deductions are explained and applied as per South African Gymnastics Federation Standards.

    Evaluate the judging experience to ensure quality and improve on judging performance.

    The marks of the competitors are noted on the score sheets for the specific discipline. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Deductions on the performance of the competitors are noted on the judges score sheets.

    Own performance is benchmarked against the competitions score sheets for each discipline.
