PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard will be able to ensure that all safety measures are observed as they apply to competitors, spectators and personnel.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner will be competent in:
  • Demonstrating an understanding of factors that may contribute to breach of safety.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of legislation applicable to sport, health welfare and occupational safety.
  • Conducting health and safety inspection for a sporting event.

    The qualifying learner will be positioned to extend their learning and practice into other areas of managing and preventing safety and emergency incidents.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Demonstrate an understanding of factors that may contribute to breach of safety. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Factors include but are not limited to weather, structures, equipments failure, spectators, participants and personnel.

    The environmental factors that cause safety hazards are identified and listed with examples.

    The human factors that cause safety hazards are identified and listed with examples.

    The consequences of not observing signs are explained with examples. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Demonstrate an understanding of legislation applicable to sport, health welfare and occupational safety.

    Legislation pertaining to sport is named with examples.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed against this unit standard (including through RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA), or one with an appropriate memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or one with an appropriate MOU with the relevant ETQA.
