PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The purpose of this unit standard is that credited learners are able to umpire a match on all inter-provincial, provincial and national tournaments. Learners credited against this unit standard are capable of umpiring and administering matches as required by the International Badminton Federation (BWF). Application of this set of competencies will ensure that matches will be umpired fairly.
This unit standard also allows for transformation within the Sport of Badminton, as learners become models for other learners. It is envisaged that this exemplary conduct would attract quality people to aspire to join the ranks of the Badminton South Africa Court Officials (BSACO). UNIT STANDARD RANGE |
The scope of this unit standard is related to the specific sport, namely, umpiring of matches in Badminton tournaments.The typical context is embedded in the International Badminton Federation Statute and in the Badminton South Africa Court Official's Manual. (Learning credited will reflect the ability to develop a rigorous approach to the acquisition of a broad knowledge base regarding examination for umpires). (Credited learners would be able to umpire a range of matches, and determine solutions to a variety of unpredictable problems during a match, often including a range of varied and specific contexts involving creative and non-routine activities). They would be able to exercise appropriate judgement as appointed line and service judges during tournaments. |

Hand signals refer to but are not limited to service not continuous in a forward position, double address, whole of the shuttle not below the server's waist at the moment of being struck, at the instant of hitting the shuttle, the shaft of the racket not pointing in a downward direction, initial point of contact with the shuttle not on the base of the shuttle, some part of both feet not on the service court and in a stationary position until the service is delivered. |
