PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The Unit Standard is aimed at individuals operating as provincial, regional or senior site guides within a cultural specialisation fields. Individuals found competent against this Unit Standard will be able to plan, develop and conduct a cultural experience of varying duration as it applies to a specific Province.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 |
A South African cultural heritage site is researched in terms of its tourist value. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 |
Different cultural groups' viewpoints of a cultural heritage site are recorded for inclusion in a presentation. A cultural heritage area footprint is compiled to indicate the relationship between the respective sites in that area. The protocols to be followed when interacting with the people whose heritage is being researched are explained in terms of maintaining their respect, dignity and integrity. |

Procedures includes but is not limited to site specific procedures, traditional protocol, municipal by-laws and other restrictive procedures, safety and security requirements and any other procedural aspects impacting on the guiding experience. |

Information is provided to clients on preventative measures against common injuries, wound, conditions and complaints encountered whilst participation in activities. |

The codes in the guiding Code of Conduct is explained in terms of their purpose and expected outcome. |

The guiding Code of Conduct is applied to ensure the respectful management of cultural diversity and sensitivities. |

Cultural diversity and sensitivities includes but is not limited to local customs, beliefs, removal of shoes, greetings, permission requirements for photographs, respect for elders, respectful observance of traditions including rituals and dances. A guided experience is conducted according to planning and consideration for an agreed itinerary. |
