PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners working towards this standard will be working within sport education function, or golf club environment providing support services to golf clubs, golf coaching and golf event management, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to one's job. This standard will provide the learner with an ability to practise coaching competences in golf such that he/she can coach potential golfers in a development context.
The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Demonstrating an understanding of golf coaching conduct and safety, particularly in the in the golf coaching environment involving children.
  • Displaying an understanding of the individual needs of children in the golf coaching environment.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of communication and a structured approach to skills development in golf coaching.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of coaching basic elements of golf to beginner golfers.

    Demonstrate an understanding of golf coaching conduct and safety, in relation to coaching children.

    The importance of coaches and the PGA coaches' code of conduct to the development of golf and golfers is understood and explained.

    The elements of good coaching conduct is understood and explained in a golfing context.

    The planning of the coaching environment in terms of health and safety is understood and explained in a golfing context.

    The benefits of sport and golf in particular is understood and the consequences of poor coaching practices explained.

    The individual coaching needs of very young children with regard to their development is understood and explained in the context of golf coaching.

    Very young children include children between 4-6 years of age.

    The individual coaching needs of young children with regard to their development is understood and explained in the context of golf coaching.

    Young children include female children between 6-8 years of age and male children between 6-9 years of age.

    The individual coaching needs of early adolescent's with regard to their development is understood and explained in the context of golf coaching.

    Coaching elements are explained in relationship to the putting, chipping and pitching stokes.

    Coaching elements include, but are not limited to of grip, alignment, ball position, posture and the golf stroke or swing technique and drills.
     


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Any individual wishing to be assessed (including through Recognition of Prior Learning) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or assessing this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
