This Unit Standard will enable learners to prepare products for transportation; manage the return of goods and warehousing.

    Manage warehousing. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Key warehousing issues are evaluated in terms of their contribution to the supply chain. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Key warehousing issues include but not limited to the need for warehouses, improve the effectiveness of the distribution network, distribution network.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Different warehouse configurations are used in relation to different goods/products and network requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Warehouse configurations include not limited to types of warehouse configurations; their application in terms of products and usage; Calculating the space requirements for a warehouse based on item utilisation, throughput, inventory strategy.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Inventory management strategies are applied to determine their impact on warehouse design/configuration and warehouse management alternatives. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Warehouse design/configuration or distribution networks include not limited to 3PL, 4Pl, and contract out, private, public.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Inventory management strategies are evaluated and applied to determine their impact on distribution networks. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Evaluation include but not limited to impact on the choices of warehouse configuration and design, warehouse ownership alternatives, advantages and disadvantages of each of the ownership models, how these ownership alternatives will work within the distribution network).
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Picking methods are evaluated to determine their impact on managing warehousing operations. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Evaluation include but not limited to identifying and describing the various picking methods and indicating the advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods; Calculating the human resource requirements based on the products, picking rate, number of movements).
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Workforce design for warehousing is aligned to the various warehousing configurations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    The role of Information Technology systems are assessed to determine how they contribute to optimising warehouse operations. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Assessment include but not limited to Identifying the data requirements to improve the effectiveness of the warehousing function; Describing the type of IT system that will be most effective for the specific warehousing function.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Manage the return of goods. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The potential reasons and implications for returning goods are identified and addressed to deal with impact on the effectiveness of the operation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Potential reasons and implications include but are not limited to defects, incorrect quality, inappropriate delivery, remanufacturing, expiry, how the return of goods could have been prevented, the impact of the return of goods on costs and customer service perceptions, impact on the ordering process, documentation required.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Corrective actions are implemented to deal with the various types of returned goods. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Corrective actions include but not limited to rework, repair, scrap, repack.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The process for and implications of returning goods are followed in accordance with company procedures. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Processes and implications include but not limited to administrative procedures, documentation, legal and environmental implications.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Specialised organisations are utilised in the reverse logistics process in the management of returned goods. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Logistics process include but not limited to reverse logistics, impact on effectiveness of the supply chain, legal and environmental considerations.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Claims procedures with third party service providers are applied to manage the return of goods. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Procedures include not limited to completion of correct forms, effective claiming, feedback regarding returns to eliminate/reduce the causes of recurring problems.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Various products are evaluated in terms of their nature and the impact this has on their packing, marking and preservation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The characteristics of products are identified and evaluated in preparation for transportation and warehousing. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Evaluation includes but is not to limited to determining impact on the packing and storing situation, identifying dangerous products, various conditions impacting on the different products.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Preparation for transportation and warehousing includes the identification and specification of differing conditions that impact on the product. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Identification and specification include not limited to identifying and describing the conditions that could negatively effect various products whilst in transit or being stored, considering product consistency, containerization in distribution, various types of containers and how they are used.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Transport units are prepared and loaded to ensure safe transportation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Safe transportation includes but is not limited to international and national packing and marking practices (ISO), mandatory documentation prepared for various consignments, a loading plan for various consignments, securing consignments.
