PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is aimed at Assistant Masters and Examiners attached to the Office of the Master of the High Court who supervise the work of tutors, curators boni and administrators.

Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to draw and examine the account of a tutor, curator or administrator. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that the learner is competent in:
  • The law of persons, family law, the law of things and contracts.
  • Communication at NQF Level 4.
  • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.

    Learners should ideally have been successfully assessed against the unit standard appoint a Tutor, Curator or Administrator to a person incapable or prohibited from managing his or her own affairs and against the unit standard.

    Apply the master's supervision of the administration of an estate of a person incapable of managing his or her own affairs.

    The heading of the account is drawn according to legal requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The income and expenditure account is drawn according to legal requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The capital account is drawn according to legal requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The cash reconciliation statement is drawn according to legal requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The certificate of the tutor or curator is drawn according to legal requirements.

    Examine the account of the tutor, curator or administrator. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The account is compared with the main documents on the Master's file and queries are raised when necessary. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
  • The main documents on the Master's file could include a will, a court order, notice of motion and founding affidavit, inventory and bond of security.
  • All activities of the tutor, curator or administrator must be assessed to determine whether the activity falls inside the scope of the assigned power.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The account is compared with the correspondence on the Master's file and queries are raised when necessary. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The account is compared with the vouchers lodged and queries are raised when necessary. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The assessment must include assessing the acceptability of the voucher for authenticity and the information that it discloses.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The account and the vouchers lodged are compared with the bank statements and paid cheques lodged and queries are raised when necessary. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The query sheet is prepared and sent to the tutor or curator. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or assessing this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
