PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to compare performers to existing criteria and place these performers in order of merit. The learner is able to analyse and assess the performers based on experience and knowledge acquired through comparison and assimilation of techniques and practical skills of the dance form performed. The person will be able to view performances in context, providing a written unbiased result based on technique, style and musicality demonstrated as compared to others in the same event or based on a standard.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the adjudication process.
  • Planning and agreeing on the evaluation criteria.
  • Assessing and adjudicating the dance form.
  • Analysing the final result.

  • Learners are already competent in the dance genre(s) in which they will provide adjudication.
  • Communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

    Demonstrate an understanding of the adjudication process.

    The adjudication process may include but is not limited to rules, adjudication system, dance form being adjudicated, scoring system, recording system, feedback procedures.

    The dance content applicable to the level being adjudicated is described in terms of technique, style and musicality.

    Rules and code of conduct required for the event are described in accordance with organiser's requirements.

    An explanation of the procedure for the handling of feedback to relevant stakeholders is provided.

    A performance is viewed and interpreted in terms of technique, style, and musicality for the purpose of making an assessment.

    Interpretation may include but not limited to meaning, intention, mood, character, text, role, stylistic conventions, concepts and principles.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Comparisons are made between performers in the same event without bias against the required dance principles. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    An evaluation is made based on comparisons using own individual judgement. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Results are explained and recorded in accordance with organiser's requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Analyse the final result.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    An explanation is given for the application of the scrutineering rules. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Scrutineering in this context means the professionally certified official who oversees the judging and tabulates scores in dancing competitions.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The adjudicator's marks are transcribed with accuracy according to organiser's requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The result is calculated through the application of the required system as determined by the organiser.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through Recognition of Prior Learning) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
