PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to prepare their workstation for a nail air brushing service. Learners are also able to perform airbrushing service in one and two colours free hand or with a stencil.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Prepare the workstation for a nail air brushing service according to organisational requirements.
  • Perform single colour application.
  • Perform French application.
  • Perform stencilling technique and two colour fading technique. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in:
  • Communication skills at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 3. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Working knowledge of colours how they relate, blend, clash, and complement each other.
  • Broad knowledge of the different air brushing equipment.
  • In depth knowledge of the equipment to be used.
  • In depth knowledge of the cleaning and maintenance of the equipment is needed.
  • In depth knowledge of the stencilling and the maintenance procedure thereof.
  • All art should be done to form a uniform pattern over all ten fingers.
  • Flat art should include: animal, floral prints patterns, realistic and abstract designs us.
  • Hygienic procedures are to be followed: personal cleanliness, sanitation of tools and work area.
  • Appropriate tools for air brushing could include airbrush equipment and paints and cleaners.
  • Applications are performed with minimum product exposure to the skin.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The workstation is prepared to; meet the required levels of occupational, health, hygiene and safety according to organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Nail art equipment is identified and described in terms of their specifications and use. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Products for airbrush nail art are described in terms of their uses and application. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The client is consulted and prepared according to organisational requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Prepared refers to covering the client with protective clothing.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The client's nails and skin are assessed to determine any disorders and contra-indications to make recommendations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Prescribed mini manicure treatment is performed in accordance to manufacturers and organisational recommendations.

    Perform a single colour application.

    Basic colour theory is explained in terms of definitions, concepts and design applications.

    Nail art are explained in terms of various designs. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Designs include but are not limited to: traditional French manicure, animal prints, abstract designs and seasonal designs.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Techniques for nail airbrushing are explained in terms of their application. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Airbrush tools and products are described in terms of their use. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Airbrush tools include but are not limited to: airbrushes, airbrush accessories, airbrush compressors, airbrush paint and airbrush stencils.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Airbrush colours are explained in terms of their benefits and application. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    A base coat and chosen colour are applied to the nails according to manufacturer's recommendation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    A nail art sealer coats is used to complete the service. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 8 
    The client's skin is cleaned using an airbrush cleaner without harming the sealed nail airbrush colours according to manufacturer's instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 9 
    The air brushing equipment is maintained according manufacturers recommendations.

    Perform a French application.

    The finishing with a nail art sealer coats is done according to manufacturer's recommendation.

    The procedure is finished with an application of nail art sealer according to manufacturers' recommendation.
