PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to prepare and perform eye lash permanent weaving and semi permanent eyelashes services. Learners will also have both an enhanced theoretical understanding and the practical ability to prepare for and conduct eyelash permanent weaving and semi-permanent eyelashes.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing the workstation for treatment.
  • Preparing client for eyelash treatment.
  • Applying eyelash permanent weaving.
  • Applying semi-permanent eyelashes.
  • Providing aftercare service.

    Type of personal protective equipment is described in terms of its benefits.

    Ways to avoid potential discomfort and injury to themselves and the risk of poor positioning of clients are explained to maximise treatment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The importance of questioning the client about known contra-indications is explained in order to determine allergies and/or skin disorders. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Skin/hair disorder/diseases/conditions are recorded on the client record card for treatment for reference purposes and/or refer client for medical advice or general medical practitioner. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Reasons for carrying out skin sensitivity test are explained according to manufacturer's instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Results of a skin sensitivity test are interpreted and explained to provide advice to client.

    Pre-care products used to clean the eyelashes and surrounding skin are explained to meet safety, hygienic and organisational requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The importance of and reasons for disinfecting hands is explained to meet health and hygiene requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Permanent weaving procedure is explained in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The permanent weaving lotion is selected to meet treatment and client's requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Rods are selected and placed on the edge of the lashes according to manufacturer's instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Adhesive glue is applied according to manufacturer's instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The lashes are curled over the rods to ensure that the lashes are not crossed.

    Permanent weaving lotion is applied according to manufactures instructions.

    Eyelash extensions are explained in terms of their benefits. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A range and use of currently available artificial lashes is identified and selected to meet client's needs and expectations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Eyelash are described in their curvatures (shapes), thickness, colour and lengths to suit different client's needs. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
  • Eyelash curvatures include but are not limited to J lashes, C lashes, Y lashes and B lashes.
  • Thickness include but is not limited to fine, thick, extra thick and super thick.
  • Colour includes but is not limited to black, blue, violet, green, wine and brown.
  • Lengths include but are not limited to 6mm to 15mm.

    Artificial lashes to be fitted are described and selected to suit the needs of the client and enhance the eye shape.

    The importance of following manufacturers' instructions for the use of adhesives and artificial eyelashes is explained to maximise treatment.

    Eyelashes are selected according to client's eye shape.

    Eye shape include but is not limited to round eye, almond shape eye and deep set eye.
