PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for people in the public sector, which includes National and Provincial Government. This unit standard will enable learners to allocate transactions using all segments of Standard Chart of Accounts (SCOA).

A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Identify the segments of SCOA to reflect the purpose of each segment.
  • Allocate a transaction using all segments of SCOA.
  • Use inter-relationships amongst all the segments of SCOA for allocation of transactions.

    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • Components of ERF.
  • Categorisation of receipts in accordance with the ERF.
  • Categorisation of payments in accordance with the ERF.

    The components of each SCOA segment are evaluated to allocate a transaction.

    The concepts used in the structure of each segment are defined in order to utilise the chart.

    The segments of the chart are used to select allocation codes for a transaction.

    The impact of misallocation of transactions is identified as it relates to reporting.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through Recognition of Prior Learning) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
