PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner accredited with this standard will be able to manage the operation of workplace computer-based systems to ensure an effective and efficient freight operations environment for the achievement of customer satisfaction in line with organisational strategic intent.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The applied competence covered in this standard requires a range of highly specialised skills involving a wide choice of procedures in highly variable routine and non-routine contexts within the Freight Industry. The learner is responsible for managing the implementation and application of computer-based systems for defined activities centred around freight logistics and is completely accountable for determining and achieving specified organisational outcomes.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered with the FE/HE Registrar and the programs offered by this institution must be accredited with the relevant ETQA.

    3. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.

    3. The importance of employee development to ensure all system users/operators are competent in their operation and application there-of.

    4. Computer-based system parameters and the required data inputs to optimise system deliverables.

    5. Expected outcomes of any computer-based system implemented in the workplace.

    6. The correct application of workplace computer-based systems.

    7. As a member of a team, analysing workplace operations to assess the appropriateness of existing/proposed computer-based systems. 


    Critical Cross-field Outcomes (CCFO): 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO DEMONSTRATING 
    Demonstrate initiative by implementing audit procedures and system integrity checks (e.g. stock reconciliation) in the application of computer-based systems.

    Demonstrate initiative in taking precautionary steps to prevent damage to equipment and data (e.g. ensure sufficient storage space, saving regularly).

    Demonstrate initiative, using workplace computer programs, to meet organisational requirements not catered for directly in existing computer-based systems (e.g. designing new Excel spreadsheet for stock management).

    Demonstrate initiative by acquiring an advanced working knowledge of the workplace computer-based system/s in order to provide additional support (e.g. user training) to system users.
