A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:

Servicing vehicle system to maintain an operational condition. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have :
  • Knowledge of O.H.S. Act
  • Literacy, numeracy and communication skills at or equivalent to NQF level 1.
  • Attended a course on:

    o Introduction to Industry.
    o Lifting equipment.
    o Tools and equipment.
    o Measuring instruments.
    o Removing, dismantling and installing components.
    o Attachment agents.
  • An understanding of General safety in the work place.
  • An understanding of supplier and customer relationships at NQF level 2.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The scope of this unit standard deals with servicing and testing vehicle systems including but not limited to: engine, hydraulic, drive train and brakes. Defects include but are not limited to : cracks, burns, distortion, water leaks, oil leaks, air leaks, fuel leaks, worn components and loose bolts and nuts. Testing includes but is not limited to: pressure, vacuum and compression. Adjustments include but are not limited to: linkage, cables, valve clearance, brakes and relieve valves. Vehicles include but are not limited to: motor, earth cultivating, locomotive and statutory units.

    The specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard are performed without direct supervision, but with access to work-site procedures and operating instructions and manufacturer's manuals.
