    This competency is applicable to laboratories performing titrimetric analyses.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Prepare for titrimetric analysis.

    The titrations selected must include three of the following:
  • Redox
  • Complexiometric
  • Precipitation
  • Acid-base

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Hazards and risks pertaining to the process are identified and explained with reference to health and safety and environmental impact. The appropriate preventive measures are described in accordance with specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Personal protective and safety equipment are examined, verified and used in accordance with specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Equipment is examined and verified in accordance with specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Selection of the appropriate method for given samples is in accordance with specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. Chemicals and reagents for the appropriate method are selected, verified and prepared in accordance with specified requirements.

    6. The titrant is standardized in accordance with specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    7. The consequences of non-compliance with specified requirements are explained with respect to personal and team health and safety, impact on the environment, production, costs and lost time.

    4. The data is recorded, concentrations calculated and reported in accordance with specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. Precision of titration is within 0,05cm3 and accuracy is 1% relative of known value.

    6. Concepts relating to titrimetry are explained in terms of their influence on the volumetric analysis.
