PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
  • Enrolment with the SA Nursing Council as a Nursing Auxiliary.
  • Empowerment of the nursing auxiliary to function safely and effectively as a memeber of the multidisciplinary team within the health care environment.

  • Learners who register for this qualification, should be in possession of a Grade 10 Certificate.

    Recognition of prior learning:

    This qualification recognises, through the submission of portfolios of evidence, the formal, non-formal and informal prior learning which learners who register for this programme leading to the award of the qualification bring to the learning situation.

    Integrated assessment:

    Assessment will include judgement of competence and assessment of performance against criteria.
    Assessment criteria will be formulated and utilised during formative and summative assessment to indicate whether the learner has accomplished the stated outcomes of the learning programme.
    Clinical assessment will be authentic and performance-based and will take place on a continuous basis.
    Summative assessment will be aimed at the understanding and integration of competence. 

    INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY 
    This qualification is comparable to a similar course offered at all other training institutions, recognised by the SA Nursing Council. 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
  • Any person with the required learning already in place may gain entry to this qualification.
  • Any credits obtained during the course of this programme, should be recognised at any other training institution offering a similar qualification.
  • May proceed to the Certificate: Course leading to enrolment as a Nurse. 

  • MODERATION OPTIONS 
    The S. A. Nursing Council as professional and statutory body will be involved with a system of external examination at exit levels to the qualification. 

    CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS 
    Our own staff with the appropriate qualification will be utilised as assessors in a manner accommodated within the quality management system of the institution and the clinical learning facilities.

    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2006; 2009; 2012; 2015.
