The broad based fellowship training resembles this qualification. USA, Hematology/Oncology Fellowship, Cincinnati Children's Hospital: The Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute at Cincinnati Children's offers the breadth and depth of experience you will need to prepare for a successful clinical and scientific career in pediatric hematology-oncology. The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training Program is an ACGME-accredited program with a curriculum incorporating an intensive three-year program that provides clinical and research training leading to eligibility for subspecialty certification by the American Board of Pediatrics. The Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute provides fellows comprehensive clinical training and opportunities for basic, translational and clinical research in all areas of hematology-oncology. The Division of Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology provides fellows with training in basic and translational research in hematology-oncology. Together they provide a unique opportunity to train fellows in basic, translational and clinical research, epitomising the concept of "bench to bedside" research. The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship exposes fellows to a combination of intensive clinical and research training. The fellowship's focus centers mostly on clinical work in the first year, and then transitions to a strong research focus as fellows advance into the second and third years. Throughout the qualification, fellows will participate in call rotations, keeping their research work balanced with clinical exposure. The primary objective during the first year of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at Cincinnati Children's is to gain extensive clinical knowledge in the areas of hematology, oncology and blood and bone marrow transplantation (BMT). The combination of individualised learning from subspecialty attending physicians and practical experience in managing complex clinical situations allows fellows to develop proficiency and confidence in dealing with diverse clinical situations in these fields. The fellowship program within the Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute at Cincinnati Children's offers extensive opportunities for comprehensive clinical training and research experience in hematology, oncology, blood and marrow transplantation and immunology/immunodeficiencies. Many research opportunities are available for fellows during their second and third years. The well-rounded approach to training provides fellows with experience in many clinical areas, as well as opportunities in translational and basic science research supervised by nationally recognised faculty. The knowledge gained through the basic science and translational research is used in the development of innovative treatments for cancer and genetic and acquired diseases affecting the blood system. |
