Registered-data under construction

The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
The qualification aims to:
  • Provides learners with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of the areas needed to work in a quantitative financial environment as it presently exists.
  • Provide learners with high level skills and conceptual frameworks required to effectively deal with the rapidly changing and increasingly complex issues underlying the business decisions of tomorrow.
  • Equip learners with the background to understand and make use of the many opportunities for computational finance in investment banking, commercial banking, money management, insurance and corporate finance. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
    The institution conducts RPL in terms of the policy and guidelines of the institution to recognise other forms of formal, informal and non-formal learning and experience. In cases where learners do not comply with the formal admission requirements, the institution applies its RPL policy.

    Entry Requirements:
    The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Bachelor of Science Honours in Computational Finance, NQF Level 8.

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    The following associated assessment criteria apply across all Exit Level Outcomes:
  • Show evidence of general and specific knowledge acquired during the programme.
  • Exhibit capacity for original thought.
  • Communicate their learning both orally and in writing.
  • Exhibit evidence of computer skills.

    Integrated Assessment:
    A formal assessment of the competence of the learner will be carried out at each examination session and an analysis of the results will be carried out. The assessment will be aimed at determining that the learner has achieved the requisite knowledge required at this level, as well as the ability to use and apply specific skills obtained in the qualification.

    Other assessment methods might include a review of a written research project as well as a review of oral presentations and other activities aimed at the professional development of the learners.

    This qualification compares with the following international qualifications in terms of the range of competencies in the learning content offered.
