PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
To enable a candidate with Std 8 or Std 10 (lower symbols) to become a nurse
To fulfil the need of service in a rural community/hospital To identify the basic needs in a community/client and hospital setting/patient To plan nursing care programmes according to identified needs related to the activities of living including health education. To refer problems beyond her scope of practice to appropriate authority To stimulate continuity education once gone through the training for those who are capable to continue with studies. The primary purpose is to provide qualifying learners with the ability to identify, plan, implement, evaluate the basic needs of client/patient; to recognise problems beyond her scope and refer to appropriate authority. |

Learners who register for this qualification can have Std 8 or Std 10 or equivalent certificate.

This qualification recognises, through the submission of portfolios of evidence, the formal, non -formal/informal prior learning which learners who register for the programme leading to the award of the qualification bring to the learning situation -experience/exposure/exposure to nursing as Ward Aids, Community Workers, First Aid Course, Home Nursing or any related course or activity to nursing |

Specific outcomes:
1. Assess the basic self-care needs of individuals, families and communities. 2. Diagnose the health promotion needs of individuals, families and communities and plan nursing interventions. 3. Implement nursing interventions with regard to basic needs. 4. Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions. 5. Communicates in an acceptable and effective way across the cultural spectrum, with people who have physical difficulties. 6. Apply ethical principles and codes to nursing practice 7. Demonstrate understanding of the nurses' role in the context of the South African Health System. 8. Identify factors in the environment that have an influence on the health of the individual, family and community. |

Carries out individual health assessment throughout the lifespan Collect data and plans actions to meet needs. Three Give appropriate health education for identified self care deficits Demonstrate competency in nursing care activities Correct and safe utilisation of equipment and technology Four Improvement in health status of the individuals, family and community Modify interventions according to changing needs of the individual family and community Five Displays effective written and verbal communication when interacting with patient, family, community and members of the multidisciplinary team Show consideration of cultural diversity in communication Observe patients response to nurses communication Six Demonstrate professional behaviour Take responsibility within the limits of own competence and relevant scope of practice according to the requirements of relevant statutory bodies Exercise judgement commensurate within knowledge and experience Seven Outline the components of the National Health Care System of South Africa Refer identified problems appropriately to members of the multidisciplinary teams Eight Identify health related problems in the environment Use knowledge and experience of environmental health to offer suggestions for solving problems in the community Integrated assessment: Integrated assessment to ensure that the purpose of the qualification is achieved Continuous assessment by unit personnel and teaching personnel using assessment tools. Formative and summative assessment are integrated by using tests, assignments. Formative-includes: Tests, Projects, Clinical evaluation, Clinical workshop, accompaniment. Summative-includes: Internal and external examination, curricula evaluation. |
ARTICULATION OPTIONS |
The qualification is equivalent with the first year of the enrolled course.
Upon completion with the course an option to continue with the next level for the Enrolled Nursing is possible. |

A system of second examiner are used/is optional
The SANC provides its own system of moderation. |

Our own Staff is used as assessor for the practical
