PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
The purpose of the qualification: Diploma in Therapeutic Aromatherapy is to provide the learners with the necessary skills, knowledge and training in order for them to be able to be professional Therapeutic Aroma-therapist in the Health Science and Social Studies field.
The two-year, Therapeutic Aromatherapy program is aimed at nurturing and producing Therapeutic Aromatherapy and Holistic Therapy specialists with a strong foundation in the principles and skills of Therapeutic Aromatherapy. The aim of the course is not only to equip the learner for employment opportunities upon graduation, but also to develop the learner`s intellectual, creative, perceptual and technological abilities, thereby allowing for more increasing competence and independence. The learner is thus equipped to adjust to the ever changing, Therapeutic Aromatherapy and Holistic Therapy environment. The purpose of the qualification: Diploma in Therapeutic Aromatherapy is thus to enable the learner to choose any of the following career paths and employ herself as a successful Therapeutic Aroma-therapist in the Health Science and Social Studies field. Rationale for the qualification: The Diploma in Therapeutic Aromatherapy is designed to meet the needs of those learners who want to progress in the field of Therapeutic Aromatherapy and Holistic Therapies. The qualification will assist those who make Therapeutic Aromatherapy their chosen path. The qualification in Therapeutic Aromatherapy will provide and offer the skills, knowledge and understanding of the field that is essential for qualifying and will allow learners to reach their full potential of advancement. Many different career and work opportunities are linked to and affected by this qualification. They include, but are not limited to: This qualification will help the learner at Level 5 to get the requirements of such a qualification, knowledge and understanding of Therapeutic Aromatherapy, as well as a detailed practical understanding of the Health Sciences and Social studies field. |
LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
This qualification assumes that the learner is competent in the language of instruction of the provider. Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification with literacy, communication and numeral skills.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): This qualification may be achieved in part through the recognition of relevant prior learning and through prior experience as a practitioner in one of the sub-fields of Therapeutic Aromatherapy and Holistic Therapy. Providers are required to develop structured means for the assessment of individual learners against the exit level outcomes of the qualification on a case-by-case basis. Such procedures and the assessment of individual cases are subject to moderation by independent-assessors. |

ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
The learner has a comprehensive understanding and is competent of the following components of the qualification: Diploma in Therapeutic Aromatherapy:
Integrated Assessment: In the assessment strategy as a whole, evidence must be demonstrated through a variety of options: case studies, problem-solving assignments, portfolios of learning materials, projects, written, oral and practical examinations. National and International external examiners assigned by professional Therapeutic Aromatherapy and Holistic Therapy bodies assess the practical and theoretical examinations. |
INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY |
The qualification: Diploma in Therapeutic Aromatherapy is internationally comparable. The CIDESCO (Comite International D`esthetique et de Cosmetology) International Aromatherapy Practical and Theoretical Exam are done by the learners. The learners are assessed by External International Examiners. The learner can after completing the qualification: Diploma in Therapeutic Aromatherapy employ herself in the International field of Health Science and Social Studies and receive International recognition. |

An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this qualification may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA.
Anyone assessing a learner against this qualification must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this qualification or assessing this qualification must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA. Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion. |

As per the SAQA decision to re-register all provider-based qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework that meet the criteria for re-registration, this qualification has been re-registered from 1 July 2018. The language of instruction is Afrikaans/English. The textbooks and notebooks are both Afrikaans/English. The International Exam is English and National Exam is Afrikaans. The majority of learners are Afrikaans, but lecturers in both languages assist all the learners, if problems may arise. |
