PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The purpose of the qualification is to: Offer an Internationally comparable qualification Provide benefits to society and the economy by enhancing social productivity and redressing legacies of inequity. Qualify learners as Therapeutic Aromatherapists in order to fulfill the need in the community for professional, qualified and dedicated therapists. Provide learners with pre-NQF qualification, the opportunity to access the NQF track. Rationale To Offer a qualification which registerable by the statutory body responsible for Therapeutic Aromatherapy and Therapeutic Reflexology and Therapeutic Massage Practitioners. To ofer a planned combination of learning outcomes which have a defined purpose intended to provide a qualifying learner with applied competence and a basis for further learning. To offer learners a qualification registered on the NQF, there by affording the learner the opportunity to gain credits by accessing the NQF facility.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

The learner is to: Be competent in the language of the provider Have literacy and numeracy skills To have communications skills Have achieved a Level 4 or equivalent, on the NQF Recognition of Prior Learning This qualification can be achieved in part through the recognition of relevant prior learning and experience in the field of Aromatherapy A learner wishing to be assessed may arrange to do so without having to attend further education or training. The assessor and learner will decide jointly on the most appropriate assessment procedure.

MODERATION OPTIONS

Internal Moderation The criteria for registered moderators is; To be a registered assessor (ASSMT 01) Declared competent in all the outcomes of the Unit Standard ASSMT 03 Register as moderator with ETQA Administer competency assessment of the institution assessors. Internally moderate the assessment process in the institution by: - Ensuring that the assessment standards are maintained - Advise and support assessors - Moderate the assessment practice External Moderation An External Moderator could be the ETQA whose functions would be similar to the Internal Moderator. External Moderator to be registered having achieved competency against ASSMT 03

CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS

RPL Assessment of a learner is to be done by a learning facilitator, instructor or Subject Matter Expert (SME) - ie; a Therapist registered as an a Assessor by the ETQA. The Assessor should; Be declared competent in all the outcomesof the National Assessor Unit Standard (ASSMT 01) Be a specialist in the field of assessment Be capable in the different techniques of assessment Have capabilities in the relevant field and learnership to be assessed Have contextual capabilities Have good interpersonal skills The criteria for registered assessors is; Assessor training against Unit Standard ASSMT 01 Declared competent in all the outcommes of the National Assessor Unit Standard ASSMT 02 Register as assessor with ETQA Comply with all assessor requirements
