PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Purpose
This part qualification is aimed primarily at giving the learner technical, theoretical knowledge, practical knowledge and workplace knowledge and skills required in their chosen occupational/vocational area.
The design of the part qualification is such that if taken sequentially with related N part courses i.e. N4+N5+N6, it enables learners to progressively obtain the National N Diploma once the required practical work component of either 18 months or two years, as required for the specific occupational area, is completed.
The part qualification as a single entity has value in the workplace as it equips learners with vital knowledge and skills that enable them to be productively employed at entry level positions in an occupation.
The part qualification can be used for updating, upskilling and/or continuing education and training in related occupations
Rationale:
As stated in the Skills Summit Declaration issued on 9 September 2010, Education, vocational training and lifelong learning are central pillars of employability, employment of workers and sustainable enterprise development. This part qualification will provide an opportunity for learners who exit the schooling system, but who wish to continue to obtain occupation specific knowledge and skills to develop such competencies and also to receive formal recognition for the skills they have acquired in a particular vocational/occupational area. It will create the opportunity for learners with an interest in a particular vocational/occupational area to develop their skills and knowledge thereby improving their employability and at the same time create opportunities for them to study further in their chosen field.

A National Certificate: N5: Business Management, or an equivalent qualification.
Recognition of Prior (RPL):
Recognition of Prior Learning can be used to grant:
1. Access to learners who do not meet the minimum entry requirements

    In order to qualify for a Diploma in Business Management, a candidate must pass at least one of the following:
  • Computer Practice N4.
  • Introductory Computer Practice N4.
  • Computerised Financial Systems N4.

    When Computerised Financial Systems N5/N6 is chosen, Financial Accounting N5/N6 must be taken simultaneously, or should have been passed beforehand.

    When Computerised Financial Systems N6 is chosen, Cost and Management Accounting N6 must be taken simultaneously, or should have been passed beforehand.

    Where more than one level of an instructional offering is given as an elective option, the principle remains in force that the previous level must be passed before a next level can be offered.

    A maximum of one N4 instructional offering will be allowed.

    EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES 
    The Exit Level Outcomes and Associated Assessment Criteria are as given in the curriculum statements for each module/subject/component. 

    ARTICULATION OPTIONS 
    Articulates horizontally with the cognate Higher Certificates. N4+N5+N6 and the appropriate period of practical work experience (18 or 24 months) enables the learner to be awarded the National N Diploma, Level 6. 

    REREGISTRATION HISTORY 
    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2015.
