The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

 

In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.  

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
(a) The general purpose is to provide a programme which gives a general introduction to the different branches of theology. It enables students without appropriate theological training, to obtain a broader orientation and understanding of the unique identity of theology as a scientific enterprise.

(b) To serve as a bridging programme for students coming from other disciplines of study who want to further their postgraduate theological training and studies. It also serves as an entry point for students with inappropriate undergraduate theological training who wants to enter into the Masters programme.

(c) To equip students who cannot afford a long training programme but need an introduction in theology and ministry. It opens up avenues for specialisation especially for those students who need a more focused postgraduate training in theology

    1. The assessment used for this qualification ensures that the purpose of the qualification is achieved.

    2. The purpose of the qualification is achieved by written and oral examinations or a smaller assignments in order to provide a general orientation in theology

    3. To demonstrate competence in outcome (general and specific) a student must be able to write logical and coherent research essays/assignments


    INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT

    Assessment of specific outcomes: written tests, oral examinations or shorter assignments
    During the second semester: a short research article on any topic in a special field of interest

    This qualification serves as an entry point to the related qualification (s) MTh, MDiv 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    The university of Stellenbosch has a system of external peer review and evaluation of departments. One of the aspects of the system is an evaluation of the standards and assessment practices of the department.

    The academic staff of the university of Stellenbosch will be used in a manner which fits into the quality assurance system of the university.
