Registered-data under construction The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). | PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |
| Purpose:
The purpose of this qualification is to enable learners to acquire the necessary competencies in order to perform much needed services while providing benefits for social and economic development. Completing this qualification will enable learners to apply practical competences in the industry. Citizen development in training our learners for viable careers, leading to: Personal development by profiting from the stimulating, nurturing and formative learning environment created here for the realisation, fulfilment and continuous growth of their potential, into persons with: Rationale: The qualification is economically viable as it can be completed in a year and contains all the necessary practical and theoretical skills needed to be successful in the industry. The main market for this qualification is school leavers, but because it is a one year certificate, this qualification is also ideal for people wanting to enter a new profession. It is useful in conjunction with other qualifications such as hairdressing, photography, advertising and media. Learners that are disadvantaged in the sense that they have a limited time in which to complete a formal qualification will benefit from the qualification and in doing so be a benefit to society and the economy as a whole. The qualification will also enable learners to continue with relevant learning at higher levels providing articulation possibilities. |

| Recognition of Prior Leaning (RPL):
The Institution strives to comply with the National Policy for the Implementation of the Recognition of Prior Learning. RPL may be carried out at any level of learning and at any NQF level and to provide an alternative access route into a programme of learning for those who do not meet the formal entry requirements for admission. RPL assessment constitutes of two parts, namely the Cognitive Assessment and Supporting Documentation that provides an insight into required competencies needed. | This qualification consists of 10 compulsory modules at NQF Level 5 and 6 totalling 145 Credits.

| 1. Knowledge and informed understanding of terminology, anatomical positions, structural organisation and function of anatomy and physiology relevant to the field of Somatology, to aid in the development of underpinning knowledge for practical application.
2. Select, plan and compose applied theoretical knowledge and practical competencies within the field of Somatology in order to perform a facial treatment to enhance client's appearance. 3. Select, plan and perform basic theoretical knowledge and practical body techniques within the field of Somatology, in order to perform a treatment on the body. 4. Ability to communicate verbally or in writing, via different technologies and media, in an accurate, professional and coherent manner with understanding of copyright and rules on plagiarism. 5. Basic fundamental computer skills, analysis and summary of key aspects regarding usage and concepts to be used in study and business. 6. Demonstrate and apply fundamental entrepreneurship concepts and legal skills to establish and operate a successful business in accordance with acceptable ethical and professional behaviour relevant to the practice of Somatology. 7. Distinguish, evaluate and solve routine problems using exercise science in familiar contexts and to apply the solutions to support progress in the practice of Postural and Figure analysis in Somatology. 8. Demonstrate the following: A knowledge and informed understanding to guide the client to a healthier lifestyle utilising nutritional knowledge and recommendations. 9. Demonstrate knowledge and informed understanding of the principles and processes underlying chemistry and physics in the field of Somatology. 10. Monitor own learning progress, implement relevant learning strategies in work integrated learning to improve learning, and manage resources in the workplace effectively to successfully realise the task outcome of all practical components completed throughout the Somatology qualification. |
