The qualification content is currently being updated for the qualifications with the status “Registered-data under construction” or showing “DETAILS UNDER CONSTRUCTION” to ensure compliance with SAQA’S Policy and Criteria for the registration of qualifications and part-qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (As amended, 2022). These qualifications are re-registered until 30 June 2027 and can legitimately be offered by the institutions to which they are registered.

PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
Develop and apply technological innovations and advancements in quality technologies to make an original contribution utilising modern quality technologies in a broad spectrum of organisational situations. The research problem, its justification, process and outcome is reported in a Doctoral thesis which complies with the generally accepted norms for research at this level.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
RPL may be used according to the institution's RPL policy to grant access top learners not meeting the minimum entry requirements.

Entry Requirements:
The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is:
  • Master of Technology (M Tech) Quality.

  • A relevant qualification at Level 9.

  • An original topic in the field of quality relevant to a general or specific organisational situation is selected. The topic is explored using a suitable variety of research techniques.
  • The problem is conceptualised clearly using appropriate definitive statements. The hypothesis is appropriate and the relationship to underlying assumptions explored sufficiently and clearly.
  • The research plan and strategy is appropriate to the problem and includes relevant parameters, data sources, research methods and techniques.

    Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
  • Appropriate research tools are applied effectively and correctly.
  • Knowledge of theory, technology and techniques in the field of quality are integrated effectively.
  • Logical conclusions are drawn clearly and succinctly.
  • The method, style, professional format of the research report complies with the accepted research guidelines and criteria.
  • The content is academically and ethically defendable. Conclusions and recommendations make a unique contribution to research in the quality field.
