| PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION |

The qualification provides the learner with a range of fundamental knowledge and competencies in fields such as business communication, information systems, industrial relations and project management. Furthermore, it also provides the learner with detailed knowledge about general management principles and specific multi-modal transport management principles. This qualification is relevant and responsive to the needs of the South African Transport Management industry. Rationale: The qualification has an industry orientation and provides a learning opportunity to entry-level employees in the transportation management industry to develop relevant knowledge and skills. This qualification covers all the major functional areas of a Transport or Logistics company and will enable learners to specialise in a particular transport mode. Learners will be equipped with the knowledge that enable them to pursue careers in various sectors of the main modes of transport namely road, air, maritime, rail and pipeline transport, where they are engaged in operational activities such as scheduling, stock control, and supervision. Also, there are also employment opportunities manufacturing, distribution and service organisations. |
